Step Up Your Analytics Game: Move from Excel to Power BI
"In this session, we'll use our experience in Microsoft Excel to better understand Power BI. If you've hit the limit of what tables, PivotTables, and charts can do for you, you're in the right place.

We'll go over how to use Power BI transformations to perform common data tasks, such as:

* Cleaning and trimming data without a formula

* Re-format an entire column at once

* Merging multiple record sets

* Splitting columns

* Multi-column VLOOKUP

By the end of this session, you'll realize that we've barely scratched the surface, but what lies beneath is exciting and powerful."

DataFlows, Planning and Building Certified Datasets in Power BI
In this session we’ll go over the need for data extraction, cleansing, transforming and persisting data to be used in Power BI, and a method to “stamp it” for approval. The Power BI toolset can be used at the Enterprise level as well as the “Self-Service BI” level. Microsoft identified a need to have something “in-between” as well. Many Power BI analysts were creating valuable datasets for their organizations that could only be used and accessed through their workspaces and apps. With the use of Data Flows, Shared datasets and Certified datasets, an organization can take advantage of analysts’ data enrichment processes. This new-found power necessitates the ability for the organization to determine which datasets are for Enterprise use. By allowing Power BI administrators to “tag” datasets as Certified, a Power BI analyst can use someone else’s dataset with full confidence that it’s been vetted by the organization.
The session will be both a presentation of the conceptual background for having Dataflows and Certified Datasets, as well as demonstrate Dataflows and the Certification process.

Data Modeling for Accurate Reporting
You spent days on discovery and got all the business requirements, additional time on finding each of
the data sources and countless hours on cleansing and ETL/ELT to get the data into Power BI. Now you
need to model the data so that the aggregations are accurate, the slicers and filters are fast, and so the
power users can build their own reports on your model. This session will cover the importance of Data
Modeling in Power BI, focusing primarily the Star Schema, Fact Tables and Dimensions. We will also

Power BI Dataset Tuning
Most Power BI reports rely on a small dataset. And due to a lighting fast data engine most data model mistakes are shadowed by the speed of the service. When the dataset gets bigger then best data modeling practices are required. The trick here is Power BI data engine is not relational and therefore most data modeling techniques either don’t apply or don’t deliver. In this session we will go over how to model and measure performance for larger Power BI datasets.

Data Visualization Best Practices for Power BI
Power BI dashboards should simplify the data analysis process for busy business managers and workers who do not necessarily have the time or inclination to dig deeply into data. The purpose of charts, graphs, gauges and alerts are to make BI data easy to grasp. However, building dashboards can be a daunting assignment for BI teams, in no small part because the intended user base often consists of corporate executives and the heads of business units. In addition, they can be a demanding audience.

A dashboard is a visual display of the most important information needed to achieve one or more objectives consolidated on a single computer screen so user can monitor the information at a glance, but how do you make all of this information easy to understand? In addition, more importantly how to do you make it compelling to use?

In this session, we will look at some key best practices that will make it easier to deliver your message to our audience and make your dashboard compelling to use.
